   Minmetals' deal gets approval from China NDRCPublished: 18 May 2009 19:58:03 PST<p class="authorInfor"></p><!--begin CK content--><ul class="narrow">Top 5 News From ChinaKnowledge.comChina Yangtze Power to buy assets from Three GorgesHang Seng Index opens 431 points higher on TueAllianceBernstein cuts shareholding in Sinopec to 6.76%China's power use fell 4% in Jan-AprSOHO China allowed to acquire RMB 1.77-bln in Beijing properties<P>May 19, 2009 (China Knowledge) - OZ Minerals Ltd, Australia's third largest diversified mining company, has announced that China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has given approval for the state-owned China Minmetals Corp to buy some of its assets for US$1.21 billion.</P><P>OZ Minerals also said in a statement that Minmetals has received binding financing commitments from its lenders to finish the deal. </P><P>Barry Cusack, president of OZ Minerals, said the approval of China's NDRC is significant, although the deal is still subject to approval from other Chinese regulatory bodies.</P><P>The deal still requires permission of the commerce ministry and the state administration of foreign exchange, both of which are expected to make a decision before Jun. 11.</P><P>Last month, Australian federal treasurer Wayne Swan approved the deal after rejecting an initial proposal. The asset sale proposal was revised to exclude the Prominent Hill mine for reasons of security.</P><P>The deal is scheduled to be put to a vote of OZ shareholders on Jun. 11.
